Dave Filoni wuchs in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania auf, wo er im Jahr 1992 in Allegheny County seinen Abschluss in der Mt. Lebanon High School ablegte. Seine Karriere als Regisseur begann er zunächst als Regieassistent der Filmumsetzung von Mike Judges und Greg Daniels’ King of the Hill.
